Marking a milestone, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) completed 11 years on April 8, transforming the entrepreneurial landscape by offering easy, guarantee-free loans to micro-entrepreneurs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the scheme in 2015, took to X to commend its role in empowering small business owners, women, and skilled workers.

‘Over 11 years, Mudra has become synonymous with small businesses, new opportunities, and a stronger India,’ PM Modi wrote, underscoring its pivotal support for youth self-employment. He accompanied his message with a timeless Sanskrit verse praising those who know their strengths, endure hardships patiently, uphold righteousness, and remain unswayed by greed as the truly wise.

Complementing the PM’s tribute, Amit Shah revealed staggering figures: 58 crore loans worth over Rs 40 lakh crore disbursed, uplifting 12 crore young people. The scheme’s gender focus shines bright, with 67% of loans aiding women – a game-changer for Nari Shakti.

Designed for seamless financial access, PMMY targets non-farm, non-corporate ventures with loans now up to Rs 20 lakh following the 2024 budget hike. Distributed via a network of banks and financial entities, it has spurred job creation and economic vitality from villages to cities.

This anniversary reaffirms Mudra’s status as a cornerstone of India’s growth story, proving that targeted interventions can unlock untapped potential and propel the nation towards Viksit Bharat.
