A White House dinner hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on September 4th brought together prominent figures from the tech industry. Attendees included Apple’s Tim Cook, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Bill Gates, Google’s Sundar Pichai, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Scale AI’s Alexandr Wang and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg. The event was marked by a series of unscripted moments. One such moment involved Zuckerberg’s off-the-cuff response to a question regarding free speech in Britain. When asked, Zuckerberg responded with, “Sorry, I wasn’t ready,” which was captured live on the microphone. President Trump reacted with laughter, repeating the phrase to Melania. Trump playfully suggested this was the start of Zuckerberg’s political career, a suggestion Zuckerberg quickly dismissed. Elon Musk, owner of X, was invited but unable to attend the gathering.
