Presidential post on X urges US sanctions and Patriot interceptors after Russian attacks

Kyiv – In an X (formerly Twitter) post dated October 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed directly to President Donald Trump for a tighter sanctions regime on Russia and for the accelerated shipment of Patriot missile interceptors.

Zelensky said the Russian night raid involved thirty‑nine ballistic missiles and over one hundred twenty attack drones that deliberately struck energy hubs and critical infrastructure in the capital region and Kharkiv. He stressed that these facilities had been listed under the "energy truce" announced by the United States, making the attacks a breach of that promise.

The president highlighted that at least six hundred thousand households are currently without electricity, and damage to twenty‑six power plants and four oil‑and‑gas installations could widen the outage zone.

He warned that the scale of the operation reflects Russia’s “open disrespect” for the United States, accusing Moscow of ignoring American statements about protecting civilian infrastructure. Zelensky also referenced the recently enacted Lindsey Graham bill, which authorises further punitive measures against Russia.

The Ukrainian leader concluded by urging the United States, Europe and allied nations to supply more Patriot interceptors, emphasizing that these systems are vital to defend Ukraine’s airspace and to pressure Russia toward a cease‑fire.
