Zelensky Warns of Missile Threat as Power Outages Hit Four Regions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia carried out a fresh attack on the country's energy network overnight on Saturday, targeting four regions and leaving families without electricity.
The affected regions are Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi. Zelensky said Russian strikes damaged substations, transformers and power lines that supply homes. Repair crews are at work, but hundreds or thousands of households still have no power.
In a message posted on X, Zelensky also said Russia continues to hit other key infrastructure across Ukraine. He cited the past week's attacks, which included 1,940 drones, more than 1,580 guided aerial bombs and 44 missiles of various kinds, 36 of them ballistic.
The president said the intensity of these strikes is exceptionally high. He claimed Russia is exploiting a shortage of interceptors capable of stopping ballistic missiles and is focusing on this weapon as winter sets in.
Zelensky said Ukraine raises the need for Patriot missiles every day with the United States, Europe and other partners that could assist. He noted that new aid decisions were made this month by Washington and several European countries, but warned that deliveries could take years.
He urged that air defense decisions be implemented immediately to protect lives and infrastructure, and expressed gratitude to everyone supporting the defense of Ukraine's skies.
