Zelensky urges tougher sanctions on Russian defence firms after latest assaults

In a statement posted on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the international community expand sanctions against Russia’s defence industry. He argued that current measures leave many key suppliers untouched, allowing Moscow to replenish its stock of drones, missiles and guided bombs.

Zelensky cited the recent strikes on Odessa, Zaporizhzhia, Nepryshivka, Sumy and Brovary as evidence that Russia’s war machine continues to operate with near‑impunity. He highlighted that roughly 1,900 drones and 1,600 air‑dropped bombs have been deployed this week alone, many using components produced abroad.

The president urged that sanctions be applied not only to Russian entities but also to foreign firms that provide the technology and parts that enable the production of ballistic weapons. He emphasized that a coordinated, comprehensive approach would reduce the frequency of attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

“Every piece of equipment that fuels this war must be cut off,” Zelensky wrote, thanking allies for their support while calling for a decisive escalation in punitive measures.
