From Switzerland to India: Yuri Fedkiv Begins Role as Mumbai Consul General

The United States has placed Yuri R. Fedkiv at the forefront of its diplomatic mission in Mumbai, with his official start date recorded as July 7, 2026. Before relocating to India, Fedkiv was stationed in Bern, Switzerland, where he acted as Political‑Economic Counselor and frequently fulfilled the duties of Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, overseeing the bilateral relationship with the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein. His prior assignments include service at U.S. embassies in Ukraine, Poland, Iraq, Slovenia and Japan, handling portfolios that range from political and economic affairs to commercial interests, political‑military coordination, assistance programs, law‑enforcement liaison, non‑proliferation initiatives and science‑technology collaboration. In 2021, he assisted in establishing an Afghanistan unit in Qatar, conducting talks with the Taliban on human‑rights, humanitarian and security concerns. He has also held the posts of Consul General in Lahore, Pakistan, Principal Officer in Fukuoka, Japan, and Consul in Chengdu, China. Earlier in his career, Fedkiv worked for a municipal government in southwestern Japan. He earned two Master of Arts degrees in International Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies. In his new posting, he aims to connect with regional leaders and key stakeholders to advance U.S. economic objectives, deepen security ties and ensure that the bilateral relationship delivers measurable benefits to Americans.
