Lalluram desk. Google -owned YouTube is planning to invest a huge investment of Rs 850 crore in the next two years to promote the growth of Indian artists, creators and media companies. CEO Neel Mohan, while announcing this at the Wave Summit in Mumbai, praised India’s growing digital landscape and international access to Indian content.
Speaking about the data, Mohan also said that the material manufactured in India alone saw the global audience for more than 45 billion hours in 2023. He further said that YouTube has paid more than Rs 21,000 crore to Indian creators, artists and media companies last year.
Mohan said that in the coming two years, YouTube will invest more than Rs 850 crore to support the development of Indian creators, artists and media companies. It is not only about numbers – it is about creating real impact by opening countless career and professional opportunities for a lively and developed India.
Praising India’s digital scenario and a creator nation, Mohan also said that over 100 million channels uploaded materials on YouTube in the last year, with more than 15,000 channels crossing 1 million subscribers mark – which was 11,000.
Mohan said, “The ability to connect the creator of any place of youtube to the audience of every place has made it a powerful engine of cultural exports, and only a few countries have taken it effectively like India. Today, India is not only a world leader for film and music – it is becoming a creator nation that I say rapidly.”
Meanwhile, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced a new institute called the Indian Institute of Astority (IICT) to support India’s animation, gaming and visual effect industry in the Waves Summit 2025. The government is investing Rs 400 crore with the help of big tech companies like Google and Microsoft. The first center has opened in Mumbai and after that more centers will be opened.
