Yemen Port and Oil Depot Strikes Leave Seven Hurt, Houthis Allege

Sanaa: The Houthi group in Yemen alleged on Monday that a Saudi-led coalition had attacked a significant Red Sea port and an oil depot in Hodeidah province, wounding seven people.

The alleged strikes come amid a renewed civil war in Yemen, one of the world's poorest nations. The Iran-backed Houthis are engaged in a conflict with the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen's internationally recognised government.

Houthi Health Ministry spokesperson Anees al-Asbahi posted details of the attacks on X. He said Saudi coalition strikes on the Ras Isa port on Sunday injured four civilians. A separate attack on an oil facility in the Bajil district wounded three others.

In the post, al-Asbahi quoted the claim that Saudi offensive aircraft had carried out an air raid on the Ras Isa port in Hodeidah province, causing injuries to four civilians. He said an oil company station in Bajil, also in Hodeidah province, was targeted in an airstrike that wounded three more civilians.

Al-Asbahi condemned the attacks as a breach of international law. "Strikes on oil storage centres and critical ports are an open violation of international humanitarian law," he wrote. "They further extend the chain of war crimes in Yemen, in which civilians and infrastructure are deliberately targeted."

Before this, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah television had attributed the Ras Isa port attacks to Saudi Arabia on Sunday evening, local time.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree also released a statement on X on Sunday. He said 75 air and missile strikes had struck Sada, Taiz, Amran, Ibb, Dhamar, Lahj, Hodeidah and al-Jawf provinces over the previous 24 hours, claiming civilians were harmed.

Saree added that since the latest tensions began, a total of 3,830 air and missile strikes had been recorded.
