Xi Jinping Urges Renewed Long March Spirit on 90th Victory Anniversary

Beijing, October 22

The 90th anniversary of the Long March victory of the Chinese Red Army was commemorated with a ceremony in Beijing on the morning of October 22. The celebration was held at the Great Hall of the People, and the key address was delivered by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the country and Chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Xi Jinping told the audience that history, when remembered properly, can light the way to the future. He urged the Party, the army and the people of all ethnic groups to rally closely around the CPC Central Committee.

He encouraged them to cultivate the great Long March spirit and continue working hard. In his words, this would help push forward the monumental task that revolutionary forebears began and produce fresh achievements along a new Long March.

According to Xi Jinping, after the Long March triumph, the CPC had led the people through a succession of great marches in the revolutionary, construction and reform eras. Each of these eras had delivered major victories, one following another.

The current period, he said, is a new journey marked by pride and hope, which he described as a new Long March undertaken by the Party and the people together. He stated that high-quality development must be pursued firmly to address the people's rising needs for a better life.

He further noted that development and security must go hand in hand to meet risks and challenges head-on. He also called for quickly transforming the People's Army into a world-class force while raising the quality of national defense and military modernization.

Xi Jinping stressed that the CPC must be comprehensively governed with firmness and strict discipline.

Roughly 3,000 individuals from a range of sectors participated in the ceremony held to mark the 90th anniversary of the Chinese Red Army's Long March victory.
