Xi Condoles Yasuo Fukuda's Family, Recalls Friendship Legacy

Beijing, October 27: Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a condolence message to the relatives of former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda after his death, offering heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Xi characterised Fukuda as a reliable and responsible politician in Japan and a longtime friend of the Chinese people. He noted that Fukuda was committed to China-Japan friendship over a long period and held a correct historical perspective.

The Chinese president pointed to a major achievement from Fukuda's time in office, namely the signing of the fourth political document between China and Japan. He said this document clarified a crucial principle guiding the growth of bilateral relations.

Xi also credited Fukuda with an important role in promoting exchanges and cooperation in Asia during his tenure as chairman of the council of the Boao Forum for Asia.

China, Xi said, would always remember Fukuda's contribution to China-Japan relations and to the development of Asia. He expressed the hope that Fukuda's family would carry on his resolve and remain involved in the cause of China-Japan friendship.

He further expressed confidence that the current Japanese administration would preserve the efforts of veteran politicians, adhere to the four political documents, and truly safeguard the political foundation of bilateral ties.
