Washington Plans to Remove Economic Restrictions on Syria, Trump States

During a meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington is preparing to lift the economic sanctions placed on Syria. He called Syria a "friendly nation" and said that the United States cannot sanction its friends. A task force that includes senior officials from the State, Treasury and Defense departments is already working on the details.

Trump highlighted Erdogan’s significant contribution in establishing a relationship with Syria’s new leadership. He praised the Turkish president for uniting the Syrian people over the past year and a half, describing the achievement as "extraordinary." This policy adjustment could mark the end of a long‑standing punitive approach that began under earlier U.S. administrations.
