Varun 24: Submarine‑Hunting and Live‑Fire Sessions with French Fleet

In the sea phase of Exercise Varun, INS Trishul joined French units including the frigate Charles de Gaulle, the destroyer Forbin and the amphibious ship La Fayette.

The combined task group executed anti‑submarine warfare drills using sonar tracking and torpedo launch simulations, followed by surface‑target attacks where both sides fired their main guns in a controlled environment.

Live‑fire sessions provided crews with the chance to test weapon systems under realistic conditions, improving accuracy and response times.

Operational exchanges were held aboard the French vessels, giving Indian sailors insight into carrier‑based operations, aviation support procedures and shipboard logistics.

Such hands‑on experience is expected to enhance future joint maritime operations, ensuring that both navies can act cohesively in contested environments.
