Van Hijacked, 330 Kilograms of Human Hair Looted in Dhaka

In a case that sounds more like a plot twist than a typical robbery, a van transporting a huge consignment of human hair was hijacked near Dhaka on Saturday afternoon. The hijackers, armed and in a group of seven to eight, stopped the vehicle in the Koshagtaha area of Damurhuda, Chuadanga, and removed 23 bags containing an estimated 330 kg of hair.

Police reports state that the hair was slated for a processing line operated by a small‑business cooperative, serving twenty‑two traders across the region. The market value of the stolen material exceeds one crore Bangladeshi taka, turning a seemingly ordinary cargo into a high‑value target.

Two suspects have been apprehended: van driver Mohammad Shahidul Islam, 47, and factory manager Sunwar Hussain Santu, 39. Their interrogations yielded crucial leads that allowed law enforcement to recover every bag of hair. However, officials caution that other participants in the operation remain unidentified and at large.

Business owners expressed alarm, noting that the incident underscores vulnerabilities in the supply chain of a lucrative hair‑processing industry. The case was formally recorded at the Damurhuda Model Police Station, and a broader investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the criminal network.
