US Pacific Command Admiral Visits Delhi, Emphasizes Indo-US Defence Partnership

New Delhi, 4 Oct – Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, head of the United States Indo‑Pacific Command, arrived in India for a week‑long official tour that placed the Indo‑US defence partnership under the spotlight.

Accompanied by Ambassador Sergio Gor, Admiral Paparo met Foreign Minister S. Jayashankar on Sunday. The two leaders examined ways to broaden security collaboration, with a special focus on maritime cooperation, joint research in emerging technologies, and the maintenance of strategic equilibrium in the region.

Jayashankar highlighted the meeting on the social network X, praising the opportunity to discuss how both countries can deepen their engagement in the Indo‑Pacific.

The discussions also covered energy security for defence forces, the integration of digital tools into military operations, and the response to fast‑moving technological competition. A statement from the U.S. Embassy noted that the visit illustrates a resilient partnership designed to confront future challenges, from advanced weapon systems to safeguarding sea routes.

The dialogue follows an earlier meeting on 28 September between Indian Army Chief General Dhruv Seth and Lt. Gen. Joel B. Votel, deputy commander of the Pacific Command, where the two sides explored expanding bilateral training and joint exercises.
