US Military Stops Iranian Missile Threat in the Middle East

CENTCOM reported on Thursday that U.S. forces intercepted a series of ballistic missiles launched by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The missiles, fired at 5:45 p.m. Eastern Time, were aimed at American troops stationed throughout the Middle East, representing an abrupt and hostile move by Tehran.

All incoming projectiles were successfully destroyed, and the United States maintains a heightened state of readiness. According to a senior U.S. defense official, Iran launched up to four missiles, though Tehran has not yet responded publicly.

The interception follows a broader U.S. effort to tighten a naval blockade around Iranian ports. American warships have recently redirected 18 commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, rendered two vessels inoperable, and seized two others to ensure adherence to the embargo.

More than twenty U.S. Navy ships are currently on station to support military operations and enforce the so‑called "steel wall" embargo. By July 28, the blockade had already affected 18 merchant ships, with two taken out of service and two placed under U.S. control for compliance verification.

These events unfolded after President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, marking their first face‑to‑face engagement since coordinated attacks on Iran in late February. Trump announced a temporary pause to U.S. strikes against Iran to give diplomatic negotiations a chance, warning that additional attacks could resume if talks fail.
