US and Iran Await Swiss‑Mediated Talks After June Agreement

On June 18, Iran and the United States signed a memorandum aimed at ending regional hostilities. The high‑level talks, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, paved the way for a Swiss‑hosted dialogue that began on June 22.

Speaker Kalibaf explained that the Swiss talks are meant to translate the memorandum into concrete actions, beginning with the five initial steps he highlighted earlier. The Iranian delegation traveled to Switzerland to press for the removal of the U.S. naval blockade, the reopening of the Hormuz Strait, and the release of frozen assets, among other demands.

The United States has signaled its willingness to move forward, provided Iran complies with the stipulated conditions. President Trump, speaking from the White House, said that U.S. diplomatic and military efforts are progressing and that Tehran will not be permitted to develop a nuclear arsenal.

Both sides are now gearing up for a possible meeting in Doha, where officials from the two capitals will assess whether the remaining clauses of the memorandum can be activated.
