U.S. Defense Buying Rules to Be Simplified for Emerging Innovators

The Trump administration pledged to streamline the Pentagon’s acquisition system to make it easier for commercial innovators and small defense firms to win contracts. Speaking to industry leaders at the Pennsylvania Defense & Innovation Summit, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the government will remove long‑standing bureaucratic barriers that have kept newer companies out of the military market. He explained that procurement decisions will now be driven by market speed, competition and the ability to scale quickly, rather than lengthy government procedures. President Trump reiterated that defense contractors have reported significant improvements after recent regulatory reforms. The summit featured more than 130 exhibitors specializing in AI, autonomous systems, robotics, advanced manufacturing, and aerospace technologies. Investors such as Antonio Gracian and Thomas Tul noted that the new policy direction is already channeling billions of dollars into the defense tech sector. Additionally, the administration unveiled a $10 billion investment plan covering shipbuilding, missile production, robotics, AI, and autonomous military systems to bolster the nation’s defense industrial base.
