US Calls for Coordinated Action on Steel Overcapacity at G20 Meeting
U.S. trade representative Jimeson Greer opened the Milwaukee summit by urging participating nations to adopt a joint approach to the growing global surplus of steel. The so‑called “Milwaukee Framework” will integrate trade measures, closer monitoring of steel supply chains and more rigorous inspection of trans‑shipments to prevent market distortions. When pressed on whether the group would impose higher tariffs on Chinese steel, Greer replied that each country would make its own decision, but emphasized the importance of collective coordination. The United States has already taken strong steps domestically and signals that other partners may need to follow suit to restore balance in the steel market.
