US‑China Dialogue Highlights Cooperation and Taiwan Concerns

Beijing, July 2 – In a phone call on June 30, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marko Rubio. Wang asserted that building a relationship characterized by constructive dialogue and strategic stability is a shared desire of both peoples and is consistent with their core national interests. He urged both sides to eliminate barriers and stay the course.

He reminded Rubio of the May meeting in Beijing between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump, where the two leaders agreed to pursue a strategically stable and constructive partnership that would guide the evolution of bilateral ties for at least three years. Wang said that the presidents' converging viewpoints must be converted into concrete steps.

Wang advocated for a broader cooperative agenda and a reduced list of contentious issues, arguing that this balance would help manage emerging dangers. He noted that the Taiwan matter is linked to the overall relationship and expressed confidence that the United States will handle it with care.

Both parties described the call as constructive and positive, agreeing to translate presidential commonalities into policy and to keep a flexible, ongoing dialogue.
