US Central Command Reports Fatality in Safe Disposal of Iranian Suicide Drone

WASHINGTON, July 20 – The U.S. Central Command announced that a U.S. service member died while conducting a controlled detonation of an unfused explosive attached to an Iranian suicide drone in northern Iraq. The mission aimed to neutralise the threat without further risk.

A second American service member was treated for minor injuries incurred during the same procedure, according to the statement.

Later that day, American troops discovered human remains believed to belong to the deceased soldier. The identification process is continuing under strict protocols.

CentCom earlier reported that two Americans were killed after an Iranian attack in Jordan on Friday, with an additional service member still missing. The command stressed that it would not release more details until next of kin have been advised.

In a related development, the United States kept its naval blockade against Iranian shipping active, diverting six merchant vessels and preventing one from proceeding.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran claimed that on Sunday it intercepted and destroyed a U.S. MQ‑9 drone over the Ahvaz region, employing its advanced air‑defence systems. The IRGC also said it had struck a U.S. installation in Jordan, targeted a fuel‑supply dock in Kuwait, and demolished a data centre in Bahrain as part of its retaliatory measures.
