Uruguayan Delegate Highlights Gandhi’s Influence in Latin America

Laura Dupuy Lasere, Uruguay’s Permanent Representative, explained how Gandhi’s philosophy resonated during the dictatorships of Argentina and Uruguay. She noted that grandmothers, searching for disappeared children, organized peaceful protests and demanded human‑rights accountability. Lasere, also chair of the G‑77 group of developing nations, asserted that Gandhi proved non‑violence is a powerful expression of courage, not weakness.
