UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund Targets 87 Million in Need

The United Nations has activated a $169 million emergency budget to support life‑saving operations across twelve crisis zones. The Central Emergency Response Fund, managed by OCHA, will allocate $150 million for direct relief in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cuba, Mali, Niger, the occupied Palestinian territories, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Yemen.

A separate $10 million tranche focuses on disability‑specific interventions, aiming to make aid delivery more accessible and equitable.

This financial package is part of a larger effort to assist 87 million people who are enduring the most severe humanitarian challenges of 2024. Fletcher emphasized that political commitment and swift diplomatic engagement are essential to translate the funding into tangible help on the ground.
