UNHRC Session Highlights Growing Human Rights Crisis in Occupied Kashmir

At the 63rd UN Human Rights Council meeting, the United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) drew international attention to the worsening human‑rights landscape in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (POK) and Pakistan‑occupied Gilgit‑Baltistan (POGB). Chairman Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri warned that since 5 June 2026, authorities have intensified repression, citing a rise in night‑time raids, enforced disappearances, and the blanket suspension of digital communications.

The party demanded an immediate, independent inquiry and urged foreign governments to exert diplomatic pressure on Islamabad to protect the civil liberties of the Kashmiri populace. Shaukat Ali highlighted that the denial of basic services—electricity, clean water, and employment opportunities—has fuelled mass protests that have been met with disproportionate force, including the use of anti‑terrorism statutes against non‑violent demonstrators.

Human‑rights advocate Harleen Kaur added that the exploitation of local resources by external actors, while residents endure inflation and unemployment, further deepens the socioeconomic crisis. She called on the Council to intervene decisively before the situation escalates into a broader humanitarian emergency.
