UNGA High‑Level Session Highlights India’s Stance on Racism and Humanitarian Aid

At the United Nations General Assembly, Secretary (West) Sibi George delivered India’s statement marking the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA). He reaffirmed India’s firm commitment to combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of bias, urging all nations to ensure equality and dignity for every individual.

George stressed that effective implementation of the DDPA requires concrete measures at the national level and stronger coordination among member states. He called for a renewed global partnership to translate the declaration’s principles into actionable policies.

Following the statement, George met with Karl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme. The two officials reviewed the growing pressures on humanitarian agencies caused by simultaneous crises worldwide and discussed ways to reinforce the long‑standing India‑WFP partnership, emphasizing joint logistics, funding mechanisms and capacity‑building support.
