UNESCO Temple Faces Hundreds of Shell Impacts; Restoration Efforts Backed by India

A joint mission of UNESCO advisers and Cambodian heritage authorities completed a three‑dimensional digital survey of Preah Vihear, documenting each of the 562 damaged spots identified after the 2025 fighting. The survey, accompanied by a catalogue of 65,738 fragmented stone pieces, will guide the reconstruction programme that India is helping to fund through its Heritage Emergency Fund and ALIPH contributions. Stabilisation work has already been carried out at 23 of the most compromised locations, while the ancient water‑drainage system has been partially restored to prevent further deterioration.
