UN peacekeepers attacked in South Sudan; AU demands swift justice

Addis Ababa, 30 August – The African Union has publicly rebuked the armed assault that struck a United Nations patrol in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, killing two Ethiopian peacekeepers and wounding seven others. AU Commission Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssef called the assault “unacceptable” and appealed to South Sudanese officials for an immediate, transparent investigation.
