UN AI Governance Global Dialogue Sets Stage for Future International Policies

The United Nations launched its first Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, bringing together a diverse set of stakeholders to chart the future of artificial intelligence regulation worldwide. Initiated under General Assembly Resolution 79/325 and linked to the Global Digital Compact of September 2024, the two‑day event seeks to align international, regional and national AI initiatives. At the core of the discussion is an independent scientific panel that will release a comprehensive report on AI’s capabilities, emerging opportunities and risk landscape. Four thematic clusters will be explored: the societal and economic effects of AI, closing the digital divide, building safe and trustworthy AI systems, and integrating human‑rights principles into AI development. The dialogue also reflects the input gathered from the February 2026 AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, ensuring that developing‑country perspectives shape the outcome. Delegates will adopt terms of reference for August 2025, setting a roadmap for policy adoption in the years ahead.
