Ulanqab's Huanghai Lake Revival Showcases China's Climate Efforts

Beijing, Oct. 16 – While traveling through the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the head of state highlighted the pivotal role of ecological balance in the country’s climate strategy. He asserted that green development is integral to high‑quality progress and that aligning environmental safeguards with economic goals is essential.

The president called for a holistic approach to protect mountains, rivers, forests, agricultural lands, lakes, grasslands and deserts, while cutting carbon emissions, reducing pollution and expanding green spaces.

He visited the Huangchihai Lake, an inland reservoir that had nearly vanished due to climate variability. Decades‑long environmental management have gradually revived its water area, illustrating the impact of sustained ecological work.

In the lake’s natural reserve, officials briefed him on restoration measures, shoreline habitat health and the status of avian populations. He emphasized that maintaining the original ecological makeup of wetlands is the primary task, urging respect for nature, work that mirrors natural processes, and strict enforcement of wetland protection statutes.

For wetlands whose ecosystems are weakened, he advocated prioritizing natural recovery, with scientific, limited human assistance where needed.

The visit proceeded to the high‑tech development zone, where the region has leveraged its abundant natural assets to advance a green‑computing industry. He received details on the “East Data, West Computing” initiative, a flagship project aimed at fostering green computing capabilities in the interior.

He stressed the need for careful scientific planning, adequate resource allocation and robust safety protocols. Existing projects must operate efficiently, and upcoming constructions should be completed on schedule.

Conversations with project directors, technical specialists and staff underscored that the national computing power network is one of six key networks in the country’s roadmap, offering extensive growth potential. He called for adherence to efficiency, environmental and safety standards, better synchronization of computing power with water resource management, and the promotion of green computing as a pillar of Digital China and new‑quality productivity.
