UKMTO Reports Two Commercial Ships Hit by Unknown Projectiles in Strait
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that on Tuesday two commercial vessels were struck by unidentified projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The first incident involved a 50,000‑tonne container ship entering the waterway; the second concerned a 19,000‑tonne vessel exiting the channel.
Both ships suffered only minor structural damage and there were no reports of injuries or casualties. According to maritime security monitors, the vessels were able to continue their voyages safely after the impacts.
These attacks come amid heightened alerts from Iran, which has warned that any ship deviating from its approved routes could face serious repercussions. The overlapping claims from the IRGC about a sunken cargo ship and the UKMTO’s projectile incidents illustrate the growing complexity of maritime security in the region.
