UK MPs Condemn ‘Barbaric’ Shooting of Peaceful Protesters in PO Kashmir

Saturday’s protest outside the Pakistani Commercial Embassy in Birmingham saw a strong reaction from members of the British Parliament. MP Naz Shah described the alleged shooting of non‑violent demonstrators in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir as "barbaric" and demanded immediate accountability from the Pakistani authorities.

She wrote on social media that targeting citizens who are merely expressing political views violates basic human dignity and moral responsibility. Shah urged the UK government to press Pakistan for a peaceful dialogue and to support an independent investigation into the alleged abuses.

Imran Hussain, another MP, highlighted the alarming human‑rights reports emerging from PO K, where dozens of civilians have reportedly been killed, hundreds injured and many forcibly disappeared. He said he would approach the Pakistani High Commissioner to convey the concerns of the Kashmiri community in the UK and appeal to the Foreign Office to use diplomatic pressure to stop the violence.

The United Kingdom Pakistan Network for Peace (UKPNP) has warned that the excessive force used by security forces may amount to violations of international law. It called on the United Nations, the European Union and other international actors to intervene, ensure an impartial inquiry and safeguard civilian lives.

The protest, organized by the Joint Action Committee (JAC), reflected growing anxiety among the Kashmiri diaspora as the situation in PO K escalates, with reports of death tolls ranging from 40 to over 100 within a short period.
