Typhoon Saudel Aftermath: Jiangxi Faces Landslide Disaster and Massive Evacuations

Following several days of torrential rain from Typhoon Saudel, a massive landslide hit the rural area of Mingkeng in Jiangxi province, killing two and leaving ten people missing. Rescue crews have rescued two injured survivors whose conditions are reported as stable. More than 5,300 residents from surrounding villages have been moved to safer locations as authorities assess the risk of further slope failures. The provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters reported that by 10 p.m. over 640 rescuers were on the ground, and road repairs along with restoration of telecommunications are underway.
