President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning regarding the New York City mayoral election, targeting candidate Zohran Mamdani. In a recent social media post, Trump labeled Mamdani a “Communist” and threatened to curtail federal funding to the city should he be elected. This intervention comes as New York prepares for its mayoral race on November 4, with the contest intensifying.
Trump expressed strong opposition to Mamdani’s potential leadership, stating on Truth Social, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home.” He argued that a “Communist” at the helm would doom the city’s prospects, predicting a “complete and total disaster.”
The former President elaborated on his concerns, asserting his duty to run the nation effectively. He believes a Mamdani victory would lead to an “Economic and Social Disaster” for New York, citing historical failures of communist principles. Trump also confusingly endorsed former Governor Andrew Cuomo, urging voters to choose him over Mamdani or Republican Curtis Sliwa, despite his past criticisms of Cuomo.
Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old Ugandan-born Democratic socialist, currently serves as a New York State Assembly member. He is campaigning on a platform that contrasts sharply with Trump’s vision.
Mamdani later responded sarcastically to Trump’s endorsement of Cuomo on the social media platform X, posting a graphic that read “TRUMP endorses CUOMO.” This exchange highlights the high stakes and political maneuvering surrounding the New York City mayoral race.
