Trump Talks Poland Base, Ukraine Aid, and Interest‑Rate Cuts in Washington Press Briefing

In a Washington press briefing on October 2, President Donald Trump said the United States is actively reviewing the prospect of placing a new military base in Poland. He highlighted the respect the U.S. holds for the Polish president and indicated that the proposal is under serious consideration.

When reporters asked why a definitive decision had not yet been announced, Trump replied that he might already have decided, but he could not confirm it publicly. He expressed his personal liking for Poland and its strategic role in Europe.

Trump gave a concise response to a question on U.S. assistance to Ukraine, stating simply that a solution will emerge. On the issue of the United States withdrawing troops from Iraq, he affirmed that America will continue to support its allies.

The president also turned his attention to South America, saying he is closely following Brazil’s upcoming election and describing Brazil as “very important” and “a great country with wonderful people.”

When asked about potential U.S. bases in Venezuela or other parts of the region, Trump said Washington is evaluating several possibilities and that the United States enjoys strong relationships with its regional partners.

He mentioned Venezuela’s oil production, suggesting that the United States could buy the oil at low prices to replenish its Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which would be mutually beneficial.

On domestic economic matters, Trump advocated for further reductions in interest rates, arguing that inflation is under control and that higher rates would slow the rapid pace of growth. He called on Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh to vote in line with his view, while making clear that he personally supports lower rates to sustain economic momentum.

Trump admitted that his administration has not been fully successful in communicating its economic achievements to the American public.
