Trump Links Trade Gains to China with Upcoming Election Pledge

During a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, former President Donald Trump highlighted what he described as a dramatic turnaround in U.S.–China trade relations. He told the audience that America now “makes a lot of money” from its dealings with China, a stark contrast to earlier periods when he claimed the U.S. lost money on Chinese imports.

Trump framed President Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Washington as evidence of growing mutual respect, noting that Xi’s 21‑hour journey would only be undertaken for a leader he genuinely respects. The former president did not outline any concrete outcomes from the meeting but insisted that the United States is now benefitting financially from its relationship with Beijing.

In addition to trade, Trump praised the United States’ position in artificial intelligence, which he rebranded as “super‑intelligence,” insisting that the country leads the world in this arena. He warned that the technology could become “overly super” and must be carefully monitored. He also referenced recent gatherings at the White House that included senior officials from leading technology firms, some of whom attended a dinner honoring President Xi, though he omitted any company names.

Looking ahead to the November 3 elections, Trump appealed to Republican voters by proposing a $5,000 direct payment to every American if Republicans retain control of Congress, emphasizing that the cash should be spent domestically to boost the U.S. economy.
