Trump Announces Massive Diesel Supply to Russia, Zelensky Raises Alarm
Washington – Former President Donald Trump posted on the platform Truth Social that he had achieved a “very successful” negotiation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The agreement stipulates that Russia will ship more than three hundred thousand tonnes of diesel to the United States and global markets immediately, followed by an additional five hundred thousand tonnes in November and a further one million tonnes thereafter.
Trump argued the plan would cause a sharp decline in global fuel prices, portraying the move as a win for American consumers. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly challenged the narrative, labeling the deal a direct financial boost for Moscow’s war machine.
In response, Zelensky highlighted that the U.S. Treasury Department had issued a temporary license easing sanctions on Russian diesel exports, effectively enabling the trade. He warned that the influx of cash to the Kremlin could be used to buy more arms and extend the conflict that has already caused massive civilian casualties.
“The timing of this announcement is deeply troubling,” Zelensky said in an interview with journalists. “While Ukrainian representatives are in Florida discussing ways to end the war, the United States is simultaneously handing a lifeline to the aggressor. This is not diplomacy; it is a strategic mistake.”
