A US politician has ignited a firestorm of criticism after making contentious remarks about a statue of Lord Hanuman. Alexander Duncan, a leader within the Republican Party in Texas, drew condemnation for his comments regarding the 90-foot-tall statue of the Hindu deity in an American city. Duncan, while declaring the US to be a Christian nation, voiced his objections to the construction of the Hindu deity’s statue.
On X, Duncan wrote, ‘Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation!’ He also posted a video of the statue located at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas.
In another post, the politician aligned with former President Donald Trump, cited the Bible, stating, ‘Thou shalt have no other gods before me.’ Duncan is running for Senate to represent Texas. Duncan’s comments quickly drew sharp reactions on social media.
