Treaty of 1960 Rendered Obsolete by Pakistan’s Hostile Policies

The 1960 water sharing pact, signed with the promise of friendship, has been declared obsolete by India’s diplomatic mission in Washington. Vinay Quatra highlighted that Pakistan’s mismanagement of water resources and its aggressive rhetoric labeling India a "water aggressor" have shattered the goodwill that once underpinned the agreement. He noted that more than 40,000 lives have been lost in India due to terrorist attacks linked to Pakistan‑based groups, and that bureaucratic delays imposed by Islamabad have repeatedly stalled Indian projects under the treaty’s framework.
