In a boost to bilateral energy cooperation, Canadian Energy Minister Tim Hodgson met with Indian heavyweights HD Kumaraswamy and Piyush Goyal during his visit to New Delhi for India Energy Week (IEW) 2026. The four-day trip underscores Canada’s keen interest in India’s burgeoning energy landscape.
Kumaraswamy’s X post detailed the productive session with Hodgson’s delegation, exploring synergies in critical minerals, clean mobility solutions, and cutting-edge manufacturing. He credited PM Modi’s forward-thinking approach for positioning India as a leader in ‘Developed India 2047′ and net-zero ambitions, fostering a future-ready industrial base.
Discussions reviewed collaborative frameworks for EVs, battery tech, and resilient supply chains. Both nations’ senior bureaucrats joined to prioritize clean mobility, electric vehicle infrastructure, and mineral partnerships.
Commerce Minister Goyal echoed the enthusiasm, sharing visuals of the meetup and noting exchanges on energy security, renewables, critical minerals, and pathways to mutual prosperity. He proudly gave Hodgson a tour of the iconic new Parliament, representing India’s fusion of tradition and innovation.
The visit coincided with PM Modi’s virtual launch of IEW 2026’s fourth edition, where he hailed India-EU FTA as a model for major economies. Modi emphasized India’s transformation into an energy opportunity hub, with IEW solidifying its status as a global forum for action-oriented energy talks.
Notable figures like Hardeep Singh Puri, UAE’s Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Hodgson, and ministers from diverse regions attended the inauguration. The three-day extravaganza attracted global delegations, highlighting IEW’s clout, with projections of 75,000+ professionals from 120+ nations.
