Teen Lifeguard Rider Williams praised by President for heroic act

President Donald Trump met with Rider Williams, a 16‑year‑old lifeguard from Santa Cruz, on August 18 to formally acknowledge his lifesaving intervention that saved 12‑year‑old Nathaniel Rai.

The Oval Office gathering included the rescued child’s family. Trump praised Williams’s “exceptional skill and bravery,” stating that such stories inspire confidence in public safety services.

Williams described how the training he received since the age of sixteen guided his decisions when the ocean turned hostile. He also voiced his aspiration to become a firefighter and to pursue paramedic studies.
