Tariff Revenues to Fund $5,000 Payments in Trump's Midterm Pitch
During a mid‑term rally in Wasilla, Alaska, President Donald Trump pledged a $5,000 cash grant to each adult citizen if the Republican Party preserves its grip on both chambers of Congress. He said the tariff revenue generated by recent trade measures would cover the cost, branding the scheme the “Trump dividend.”
Trump emphasized that the money must be spent in America and warned that a Democratic takeover would produce a depression on par with the 1929 crash. He offered no specifics on how the payments would be delivered or the total budget required, noting that any such program would need congressional sanction.
The speech also addressed Iran, where Trump claimed Tehran would soon be denied a nuclear weapon and that the war in the region would end quickly, causing oil prices to plunge. He asserted that the United States now extracts more oil from the Strait of Hormuz than ever before and that the country controls the strait.
Additional rally highlights included criticism of Canada for allegedly allowing millions to cross the border, a call for early voting that began on Oct. 19, and a promise to pardon three individuals previously charged with emission‑control violations.
