Supreme Court rejects Trump’s earlier birthright rule, prompting new orders

The Supreme Court’s June 30 ruling dealing a blow to the Trump administration’s immigration agenda forced a rapid policy shift. By a 6‑3 vote, the Court rejected an executive order that would have barred children born in the United States to undocumented or temporary‑status parents from acquiring citizenship under the 14th Amendment.

Following the decision, President Trump convened his senior advisers and, on August 7, signed two fresh executive orders. The first re‑targets the phenomenon of birth tourism, while the second enlarges the list of people whose children are deemed ineligible for birthright citizenship, citing national security and fraud concerns.

The administration argues that these actions preserve the integrity of American citizenship while complying with constitutional requirements.
