Humanitarian Crisis Deepens as Schools and Hospitals Targeted in Sudan

The conflict in Sudan has escalated beyond battlefield casualties, striking civilian spaces that are crucial for daily survival. UNICEF officials say that repeated bombardments have damaged or destroyed schools, health centers, water distribution points and market stalls.

These attacks have forced aid convoys to reroute, slowing the flow of food, medicine and shelter materials to populations already facing displacement. In Al Obeid and surrounding districts, roughly five hundred thousand residents are now living under constant threat of violence and deprivation.

UNICEF describes the situation in Al Obeid as “extremely concerning,” urging all parties to respect civilian infrastructure and allow humanitarian actors to operate safely and without obstruction.
