Strengthening Historic India‑Tanzania Linkages: Radhakrishnan and Mwanyi Talk Partnerships

New Delhi, July 19 – The President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, paid a diplomatic visit to India and held talks with Vice‑President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday. The dialogue, held at the Vice‑President’s official residence, was described as extensive and forward‑looking.

Both leaders underscored that the India‑Tanzania relationship is anchored in a legacy of maritime trade, cultural interaction, and people‑to‑people ties that have endured for generations.

The agenda included expanding commercial exchanges, encouraging foreign direct investment, joint infrastructure ventures, and promoting tourism. Particular emphasis was placed on the blue economy, where sustainable utilization of marine resources can drive growth.

Education and technology were highlighted as pillars for future collaboration. President Mwinyi lauded the establishment of the IIT Madras Zanzibar campus, calling it a historic milestone for Indo‑African academic cooperation.

The Vice‑President affirmed that India is committed to reinforcing its alliance with Tanzania and Zanzibar, targeting priority sectors to achieve common development objectives and shared prosperity.
