Strategic sectors from defence to high‑tech see growing partnership

During an interaction with IANS on 12 August, Israel’s top diplomat in New Delhi, Ruvan Azar, outlined the expanding scope of India‑Israel collaboration across several strategic domains. Defence cooperation is intensifying, with joint exercises and technology sharing, while agricultural initiatives are being scaled up to improve food security in both nations.

The ambassador highlighted that the number of Indian workers in Israel has doubled, reflecting deeper people‑to‑people ties. He also pointed to ongoing negotiations on a bilateral investment treaty and a free‑trade agreement that are expected to give Israeli firms a clearer roadmap for investing in Indian markets.

High‑technology remains a flagship area, with both governments encouraging startups, cybersecurity firms and research institutions to partner. Infrastructure projects, particularly in renewable energy and smart cities, are also receiving heightened attention.

Azar concluded that the cumulative effect of these initiatives is a robust, diversified partnership that can serve as a model for other emerging economies seeking strategic alliances.
