Strategic partnership deepens as India and Poland discuss defence projects

India and Poland are moving from a broad strategic partnership to concrete defence collaborations, according to statements made by Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Theofil Bartoszewski on Tuesday.

Both governments are drafting a work plan that details how specific platforms – ranging from armored vehicles to naval systems – can be jointly produced. The plan calls for Indian equity participation in Polish‑origin projects and Polish shareholding in Indian‑origin projects.

The bilateral dialogue reflects changing security dynamics in Europe, where the perception of a perpetual peace has shifted. Poland’s defence ministry now sees India as a reliable partner capable of enhancing its own military capabilities.

Poland also emphasized the significance of the EU‑India Free Trade Agreement, which is set to boost bilateral trade flows, including high‑tech defence items.

Later, Deputy Minister Bartoszewski met with MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George to review progress on the partnership, cultural exchanges, counter‑terrorism cooperation and other strategic priorities.
