Strategic Dialogue Expected as Indian FM Meets Ethiopian Leaders in Addis Ababa
External Affairs Minister Jai Shankar touched down in Addis Ababa on October 9 after completing his mission in Côte d’Ivoire. He posted a greeting on X, expressing gratitude to State Minister Berhanu Tsegaye for the hospitality and looking forward to constructive discussions.
The minister’s schedule features bilateral meetings with Ethiopia’s foreign minister Gedion Timotheos Haile‑Selassie, who was recently re‑appointed, as well as sessions with the prime minister and senior cabinet members. The dialogue will address the full spectrum of India‑Ethiopia relations, from trade and investment to defence and cultural exchange.
Shankar will also chair a conference of heads of mission, providing a venue for diplomats to deliberate on regional challenges, including security threats, climate action, and economic integration.
The Ministry emphasized that the visit signals India’s resolve to deepen its partnership with African nations and to reinforce its solidarity with the Global South, while also reviewing existing cooperation and identifying new avenues for joint growth.
