Strategic Boost: India‑Japan Summit to Focus on Semiconductors, AI and Clean Energy

The 16th India‑Japan summit, scheduled for 1‑3 July 2026 in New Delhi, will concentrate on deepening ties in five high‑impact areas: semiconductors, rare‑earth minerals, clean energy, artificial intelligence and telecommunications.

Japan’s Prime Minister Sane Takahashi has highlighted the need to merge her nation’s technological excellence and investment muscle with India’s massive manufacturing ecosystem and abundant IT talent. The goal is to forge a resilient industrial framework that can operate independently of hostile supply chains.

For India, the summit presents an opportunity to tap into Japan’s expertise to accelerate domestic production of critical components, especially in the semiconductor and AI domains. Clean energy cooperation will also help both countries meet their climate commitments while reducing reliance on fossil‑fuel imports.

In parallel, the meeting will revisit the joint economic‑security declaration signed last year, seeking to expand defence collaboration, joint exercises and interoperability between the Indian and Japanese armed forces.
