New steps aim to deepen people-to-people contacts between India and China

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted a set of confidence‑building measures intended to strengthen interpersonal ties between India and China. Chief among them is the reinstatement of the Kalash‑Manasarovar pilgrimage route and the re‑opening of civil aviation corridors.

Spokesperson Ranveer Jaiswal told reporters that "ongoing talks are progressing positively" and that the recent actions are expected to create a more robust and friendly atmosphere between the two nations.

These statements were made after the Indian diaspora raised concerns at an open forum organized by the Indian Embassy in Beijing about increasing defamatory content targeting Indian heritage on Chinese social media.

Earlier this year, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Chinese Vice‑Foreign Minister Hua Chunying. The bilateral talks covered every key area of the relationship, including border stability, trade, cultural exchange and mutual development goals.

The Indian Embassy in China later shared a summary on X, noting that both sides discussed expanding economic cooperation, fostering cultural interactions and ensuring peace along the disputed frontier.

In addition, Misri had a separate meeting with Li Wentang, deputy head of the Central Party School, to explore new avenues of collaboration and exchange for the coming years.
