Starmer Highlights Six‑Year Achievements Before Leaving Office

Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered his final speech at 10 Downing Street on July 20, summarising the main achievements of his six‑year premiership. He began by thanking those who stood by him and announced his intention to resign by meeting King Charles III.

Starmer said Labour turned its fortunes around after the 2019 defeat, rebuilt its policy platform, and secured a landslide win in 2024. He pointed to a stronger British economy, record improvements in NHS waiting times, a decline in child poverty, and tighter immigration figures. Defence capabilities, he added, are now at their highest level.

On the world stage, Starmer claimed Britain’s prestige has improved markedly. He handed over the reins to Andy Burnham, assuring full cooperation during the transition. Concluding, he expressed his gratitude to the public and declared, “I leave with a smile, proud of the progress we made together.”
