Sri Lanka’s police force marked a major victory against transnational crime by repatriating 125 Chinese nationals implicated in telecom fraud. Arrested in recent sweeps, these individuals represent a surge in fraudsters relocating to the island nation from various countries amid heightened scrutiny elsewhere.

The collaborative crackdown between Chinese and Sri Lankan law enforcement has yielded tangible results. Over recent months, Sri Lankan raids have shuttered multiple scam operations, capturing key players in the network.

Backed by the Chinese diplomatic mission in Colombo, Hubei Province police arrived on March 29 to escort the deportees. Hubei’s security apparatus is now spearheading a thorough probe into the syndicate’s activities.

A spokesperson for China’s public security apparatus emphasized ongoing expansion of such international alliances. ‘We will steadfastly oppose telecom and online fraud through relentless cooperation,’ they stated. This development signals a robust global response to the burgeoning threat of cyber-enabled financial crimes, fostering hope for diminished scam epidemics.
